Congratulations to all students who completed the Flat Connections Global Project and provided a video that shared some of the learning during the time of the project. It is always a joy to see students' creative approach to video production. There was pleasing variety evident in the videos. Some were documentary style, some narrations, others acted out role plays or shared text on slides and some used a blend of media. Individual creativity, the use of personal stories and evidence of research was visible. It was pleasing to note that the winning videos in each category cited the source of their materials when original media was not being used. This has not always been the case in the past. Outsourced clips really add impact to videos and the role that students play in providing these outsourced clips is of high importance.
Schools who were involved in the current Flat Connections project appeared to be well represented amongst the winning videos.

Design and Technical Quality:
Winning videos in each category were well designed and showed that a lot of thought had gone into preparing these videos. Technical quality was high - images and videos were of appropriate size, played and displayed well and music was added where necessary. Audio was of an appropriate volume in the majority of videos. It is always engaging to see videos that use a blend of media. Care needs to be taken that animation and transitions are not over used and detract from the overall impact of the video.

Synthesis and Construction of Ideas:
The videos that stood out most, had a clear message and well placed outsourced clips. Those that were most successful provided a 'hook' at the very beginning and ensured that the viewer watched the video all the way through. Ideas need to flow into a storyline and not act as individual parts to an overall theme. Citing of sourced material was evident in the winning videos.
